Half Hollow Hills Active Retired Teachers
Our 2016 Fall Luncheon was a wonderful success. We had 39 retirees including several newly retired teachers. The Bonwit Inn was once again lovely. Our speakers included Rich Haas, who spoke about the challenges of the active teachers. Mel Stern spoke addressed politics as related the education and Joan Petroske who gave important information concerning HHHART. Dick Lee reminded us of current Welfare Trust Benefits. (Access this information on the Welfare Trust Fund page on this website.)
Close to 50 people attended our annual Fall luncheon. We all fit in a cozy room with windows at the Bonwit Inn in Commack. The food was delicious!
Joan Petroske, our president, kept us abreast of retiree news. Richard Haas, the active teachers' association president, was there to share what the new school year brings for the HHHTA. Mel Stern, our political action member, awakened our minds to the need to vote wisely, to get involved in supporting a pro-education nominee, and what is going on in Albany.
If you have never attended a Fall luncheon, you are missing an opportunity to reacquaint yourself with long lost friends. Put it on your calendar for next year (early September)
The Annual Meeting proved to be very interesting. Joan Petroske chaired the meeting with pertinent union updates and introduced the speakers of the day.
The luncheon was well attended, as always. Along with some "union" news we got to chat with our friends and new retirees.
In July a few of us went to lunch in Garden City and then a play at Adelphi. It was a Saturday afternoon event, enjoyed by those who attended. Admittedly so, the best part was the luncheon!
HHHART's Annual Meeting took place on Wednesday, May 8th. The Bristal in East Northport hosted a brunch for our meeting. Joan Petroske, Mel Stern and Dick Lee updated us on issues pertaining to HHHART members. Then a panel discussion ensued to give a general overview of eldercare issues, care options and legal concerns. The meeting was a success as we all left armed with information to aid in planning our futures.
